Randy Kamal Abro, a 41-year-old Chaldean man from Utica, Michigan, was a devoted father to two young sons, ages three and nine. Known and loved by his family and friends, his sudden death left his community navigating a devastating loss. His wife, Merna Pato Abro, remembered the need to surround their boys with love and support in the wake of their father's killing.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Randy Abro was at a commercial warehouse plaza in Sterling Heights.
At approximately 2:14 p.m., the Sterling Heights Police Department received a 911 call reporting the sound of gunshots in the 6200 block of Millett Avenue, in a commercial district near 15 Mile and Mound roads. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Abro suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was the first homicide recorded in Sterling Heights for the year 2026.
Witnesses reported that the person or people involved in the shooting fled before police arrived. Investigators quickly identified a suspect vehicle, a 2025 black Toyota 4Runner with black rims, and released a security image to the public, asking for information. The Sterling Heights Police Department’s Detective Bureau launched an intensive investigation, utilizing various tools, including automated license plate reader technology, which played a key supporting role in identifying suspects.
Within days, detectives identified two men in connection with the homicide and obtained arrest warrants. In a pre-dawn operation on Friday, October 16, a joint team of officers from the Sterling Heights Police Department’s Special Response Team, the Warren Police Department’s SWAT team, the FBI’s Macomb County Gang and Violent Crimes Task Force, and the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office arrested one of the suspects in the city of Warren.
The arrested man was identified as Kenneth Hollins Morgan, a 41-year-old from Detroit. On October 19, 2026, Morgan was arraigned in 41-A District Court in Sterling Heights. He was charged with felony murder, which carries a potential sentence of life without parole, along with two counts of felony firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Prosecutors also filed a fourth-offense habitual offender notice. Morgan's bond was set at $2 million, and he was remanded into custody. A probable cause conference was scheduled for November 2, 2026.
Police are still searching for a second suspect, 31-year-old Jerome Charles Eursher. Authorities have described Eursher as a Black male, 6 feet tall, and weighing about 200 pounds, with known ties to Detroit and Cleveland, Ohio. He is considered armed and dangerous, and the public has been warned not to approach him but to call 911 immediately if he is seen.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Randy Abro's family and friends came together to mourn his loss and provide for his two young sons. His wife organized an online fundraiser to help secure the boys' future, including their care and education. The fund received an outpouring of community support, raising over $114,000 toward its $150,000 goal.
As of October 2026, the investigation into Randy Abro's death remains active and ongoing. While one suspect is in custody awaiting trial, the search for Jerome Charles Eursher continues. Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances or motive for the shooting. Anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of Eursher is urged to contact the Sterling Heights Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 586-446-2825.
