On the evening of April 20, 2020, a shooting incident at the Campus Habitat apartments in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, resulted in the death of 21-year-old Raven Tre-Von Edelen of Wyoming, Michigan. Mr. Edelen was a student at Central Michigan University studying psychology. He was known to enjoy basketball, football, and running track, and also had an entrepreneurial interest in music.
Responding to a call at 5:57 p.m., officers from the Mt.
Pleasant Police Department arrived at the apartments on Edgewood Drive, where they secured the scene and discovered Mr. Edelen, who was pronounced dead. The investigation, aided by witness statements, quickly led to the identification of a suspect. Authorities have stated that the shooting was an isolated and targeted event, posing no further risk to the public.
The investigation led to the arrest of two individuals in connection with the shooting. Miykael Norfleat, a 20-year-old from Chicago, Illinois, was identified as the primary suspect. Another man, 22-year-old Justin Collins of Mount Pleasant, was also implicated. Both men were taken into custody and lodged in the Isabella County Jail.
On April 22, 2020, both Norfleat and Collins were arraigned in Isabella County Court. Norfleat was charged with homicide/open murder, first-degree home invasion, possession of a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon. Collins faced charges of homicide/open murder, first-degree home invasion, and a felony firearm/weapons offense. Bail for each was set at $1,000,000 cash. Subsequently, on January 27, 2021, Miykael Norfleat was sentenced in Isabella County Trial Court to a minimum of 31 years in prison for the murder of Raven Edelen.
