In the quiet community of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, a young life was tragically cut short. Asa Mitchell Alvarez, a three-year-old boy, passed away in November 2022. He was a sweet-hearted and vibrant child, known for his bright smile and the joy he brought to his family.
Asa was inseparable from his younger brother, two-year-old Alonzo 'Fonz' Onyx Alvarez. The two boys were often found playing together, sharing a love for the outdoors and their favorite cartoons.
Asa, a loving older brother, was always looking out for Fonz.
The circumstances of their deaths were heartbreaking. On November 13, 2022, both Asa and Alonzo were victims of gun violence. They died alongside their father, Jeremy Alvarez, in what was determined by Tribal Police to be an apparent murder-suicide. The incident left their mother, Morningstar Pelcher, and their other siblings to mourn the profound loss of two beloved children.
Asa was remembered for his love of Lightning McQueen cars, playing in the dirt, and his infectious smile that could light up any room. Though his time was brief, the memories of his happy and energetic spirit continue to be cherished by his family and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation communities.
