In the early morning hours of July 23, 2020, the life of 16-year-old Davaisha Lashay Jenkins, a Black female from Jackson, Michigan, was tragically cut short. While she was asleep in her bedroom in the 1200 block of Heather Lane, multiple gunshots were fired from outside her home at approximately 4 a.m. One of the bullets penetrated the wall of the house and struck Davaisha in the head, killing her at the scene.
