In the early morning hours of July 23, 2020, the life of 16-year-old Davaisha Lashay Jenkins, a Black female from Jackson, Michigan, was tragically cut short. While she was asleep in her bedroom in the 1200 block of Heather Lane, multiple gunshots were fired from outside her home at approximately 4 a.m. One of the bullets penetrated the wall of the house and struck Davaisha in the head, killing her at the scene.
Investigators from the Jackson Police Department and the Michigan State Police Crime Lab quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence. They believed that Davaisha's residence was specifically targeted, although a motive for the shooting has not been publicly disclosed. Despite their investigation into the targeted nature of the attack, law enforcement officials have not made any arrests in connection with her death. The case remains unsolved, leaving a community and a grieving family searching for answers and justice.
Known affectionately as 'Obb' to her family and friends, Davaisha's sudden and violent death deeply impacted the Jackson community. In the wake of the tragedy, a memorial fund was established to assist her family with funeral expenses and other costs. The outpouring of support highlighted the profound sense of loss felt by those who knew her and the broader community, who continue to await a resolution in her case.
