In the early morning hours of September 3, 2020, a senseless act of violence tragically cut short the life of 43-year-old Janet Lynn Kendle, a female resident of Detroit, Michigan. Kendle was enjoying a walk with her husband near Jefferson Avenue and St. Aubin when a vehicle approached them. From the backseat of the car, a passenger opened fire, and a single bullet struck Kendle.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The Detroit Police Department, who were in the vicinity and heard the gunshots, responded swiftly to the scene. Their investigation into the seemingly random shooting led to the arrest of 19-year-old Devin Rashad Green of Detroit. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office subsequently charged Green with second-degree murder, careless discharge of a weapon causing death, and felony firearm.
Following his arrest, Green was arraigned in the 36th District Court. A probable cause conference was scheduled for October 9, 2020, with a preliminary examination set for October 16, 2020. Janet Lynn Kendle's family remembered her as a loving grandmother to ten children. Her untimely death left her family and the community grappling with the shock and sorrow of a life taken too soon.
