On October 1, 2020, the life of 31-year-old Tukuyo Moore, a Black man, came to a violent and tragic end. The initial discovery was made in Detroit when police found a burning car with Moore's body inside. He had been shot. This grim finding led Warren police to Moore's home, where an even more horrific scene awaited them. In the basement of the residence, officers discovered the bodies of Moore's 28-year-old girlfriend, Isis Rimson, and his 6-year-old son, Tai'raz Moore.
Both had been shot execution-style.
The investigation into the triple homicide quickly pointed to a suspect: Nicholas Raad Bahri. Authorities determined that the motive for the brutal slayings was a dispute over drugs and money. Bahri was arrested and faced a litany of charges, including three counts of first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder, arson, and mutilation of a body.
The legal proceedings that followed were emotionally charged. During a preliminary examination, Tukuyo Moore's mother, overwhelmed with grief and anger, physically attacked Bahri in the courtroom. Despite the emotional turmoil, the case proceeded to trial. In April 2022, a jury found Nicholas Bahri guilty on all 15 counts brought against him. The conviction brought a sense of justice to the families of the victims, though it could never erase the pain of their loss. Bahri's sentencing hearing was delayed after he had an outburst in court, but he ultimately faced a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for his heinous crimes.
