In what was described as a monstrous and godless act, six-year-old Tai'raz Moore was tragically killed in a triple homicide that stemmed from a dispute over drugs and money. The young boy, who was excited about losing his first tooth, was found shot multiple times in the back of the head, execution-style, in the basement of a home in Warren, Michigan.
The horrific discovery was made after police were led to the residence on October 1, 2020.
Authorities had earlier found the body of Tai'raz's father, 31-year-old Tukoyo Moore, in the back of a torched car in Detroit. He had also been shot. When Warren police went to the home to notify the family, they uncovered the gruesome scene in the basement. Alongside Tai’raz was his father's 28-year-old girlfriend, Isis Rimson, who had also been shot and killed in the same manner.
The investigation into the brutal slayings quickly pointed to a suspect. Nicholas Raad Bahri, a 37-year-old Michigan man, was arrested and charged in connection with the murders. Investigators believe that Bahri and Tukoyo Moore were involved in drug trafficking and that a falling-out between them led to the tragic events. The home where the bodies of Tai’raz and Rimson were found had been ransacked, but police discovered drugs, guns, and a large amount of cash hidden inside.
Bahri was arraigned on a multitude of charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, felony firearm charges, and mutilating a dead body. Law enforcement officials were so outraged by the execution-style murder of a child that the Warren Police Commissioner publicly called for federal authorities to get involved in the case to potentially seek the death penalty, a punishment not available under Michigan state law. The brutal killing of a young boy sent shockwaves through the community, leaving a family to mourn the senseless loss of a child whose tomorrow never came.
