In the closing days of 2020, the life of Desrik “Dez” Samar Blakes, a 36-year-old man from Saginaw, Michigan, was tragically cut short. On December 22nd of that year, Blakes was found shot to death, becoming the city's 26th homicide victim in what was a particularly violent year for the community. His death left a void in the lives of his family and friends, who remembered him as a beloved son, father, and friend.
Desrik, known affectionately as 'Dez,' was born and raised in Saginaw.
