In the evening chill of a late December day in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the life of Marquis Deon Townsend was tragically cut short. On December 27, 2020, shots echoed in the area of Franklin Avenue and Dolbee Street SE, prompting calls to the Grand Rapids Police Department around 6:30 p.m. Responding officers discovered a grim scene in front of a house on Thomas Street SE. There they found 28-year-old Marquis Deon Townsend suffering from a gunshot wound.
