In the winter of 2015, the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, saw its first homicide of the year with the death of Lamont Corzell McFall, a 23-year-old Black / African American man. On the evening of February 19th, McFall was inside a vehicle parked on Jefferson Avenue, just south of Hall Street SE, when he was fatally shot. The incident prompted a thorough investigation by the Grand Rapids Police Department as they worked to understand the events that led to the young man's death.
