In the early evening of October 1, 2021, Anthony Curtis McConer, Jr., a 20-year-old male, was found inside a parked car in Grand Rapids, Michigan, having sustained a gunshot wound. The discovery was made by police officers in the 400 block of Highland Street SE at approximately 7 p.m.
McConer was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries a week later, on October 8, 2021.
His death was subsequently investigated by the Grand Rapids Police Department as a homicide.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement officials began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. An autopsy was scheduled to officially determine the cause of death. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the identification and apprehension of a suspect or suspects. Investigators urged anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them directly or to provide anonymous tips through Silent Observer. As of the immediate reports following the incident, no arrests had been made, and no suspects had been publicly identified in connection with the shooting.
