On January 23, 2009, Derrick Gloster, 18, was shot and killed in the Liberty City neighborhood of Miami, Florida. The shooting, which has been referred to as the "Liberty City Massacre," occurred during a dice game outside a local store on 15th Avenue. An unidentified gunman armed with an assault rifle opened fire, killing Gloster and another teenager, Brandon Mills, while injuring seven others.
