On a cold January evening in 2021, the life of 19-year-old Dazhane Jasmine Holloway was tragically cut short in Clinton Township, Michigan. On January 22nd, she and her friend, 18-year-old Dionna Janae Davis, were outside the Knottingham Apartments on Wellington Crescent, simply unloading groceries from their vehicle. In an instant, their ordinary activity turned into a scene of horror when two men ambushed them and opened fire. Both young women were found fatally shot inside their car when police arrived around 6:35 p.m.
The perpetrators, identified as Darrell Semaj Banks and Dajuan Dion-Diego Davenport, immediately fled the scene in a blue Dodge Charger. Their escape set off a high-speed police chase through Metro Detroit. The pursuit came to a dramatic end when the suspects crashed their vehicle into a utility pole. At the crash site, both men were apprehended by law enforcement. Inside the wrecked car, police discovered the firearms used in the murders.
Following their arrest, Banks and Davenport faced serious charges for their violent actions. They were each charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of felony firearm violations. The case proceeded to a six-day trial in Macomb County Circuit Court, where a jury considered the evidence presented against them, including the recovered weapons and footage from the police chase. The jury found both men guilty on all charges. In April 2023, Darrell Semaj Banks and Dajuan Dion-Diego Davenport were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, ensuring they would be held accountable for the devastating loss of two young lives.
