In the early evening of January 22, 2021, a senseless act of violence cut short the life of 18-year-old Dionna Janae Davis in Clinton Township, Michigan. Davis, a female, and her friend, 19-year-old Dazhane Jasmine Holloway, were in the process of unloading groceries at the Knottingham Apartments on Wellington Crescent when they were tragically ambushed. Two men approached the young women and opened fire, ending their lives in a sudden and brutal manner. When authorities arrived at the scene, they discovered both Davis and Holloway inside their vehicle, having succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds.
The perpetrators, quickly identified as Dajuan Davenport of Warren and Darrell Banks of Mt. Clemens, fled the scene in a vehicle, initiating a high-speed chase with police. The pursuit came to an end when the suspects crashed their car, allowing for their apprehension by law enforcement. Inside the wrecked vehicle, police discovered the firearms that were used in the murders of the two teenage women. The motive for this violent act has not been made clear.
Following their arrest, both Davenport and Banks faced serious charges for their crimes. They were each charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of felony firearm possession. After a thorough investigation by the Clinton Township Police Department, the case went to trial. In April 2023, a jury found both Dajuan Davenport and Darrell Banks guilty on all counts. For the murders of Dionna Janae Davis and Dazhane Jasmine Holloway, the two men were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. They also received an additional mandatory two-year sentence for the felony firearm convictions.
