In February 2021, the community of Flint, Michigan, was shaken by the disappearance of 34-year-old Black male Daniel Alan Vaughn, who was last seen alive during the nighttime hours of February 4. He had been visiting a residence on River Forest Drive in Flint Township before vanishing, prompting local law enforcement to issue a Missing and Endangered Advisory.
Friends and family held out hope as police followed various tips, including information suggesting he might have traveled to the Beecher or Mt. Morris areas where he grew up. Tragically, the search concluded on February 16, 2021, when authorities discovered his deceased body on the 1700 block of Marlowe Drive in Flint. Investigators immediately determined that foul play was involved in his death, launching a homicide investigation that would eventually implicate three individuals.
Detectives unraveled a disturbing sequence of events leading to the victim's death, alleging that he was lured into a meeting under the guise of a drug transaction. The investigation revealed that the primary suspect, Beinville Alexander III, arranged the encounter due to a conflict regarding a romantic partner. According to prosecutors, while the two men were inside the victim's vehicle, Alexander shot and killed him. Following the shooting, Alexander reportedly drove the car to Rankin Street, where he attempted to set both the vehicle and the remains on fire to destroy evidence. The body was subsequently moved to the location on Marlowe Drive where it was ultimately found by police.
Three suspects were taken into custody in connection with the crime. Beinville Alexander III, who was 31 years old at the time of his arrest, faced the most severe accusations, including open murder and mutilation of a dead body. Two alleged accomplices, 31-year-old Trevyan Harris and 29-year-old Maranda Ide, were charged with assisting Alexander. Authorities stated that Harris and Ide helped move the body and participated in further attempts to burn the remains to conceal the crime. They faced charges including being accessories to a felony after the fact, concealing the death of an individual, tampering with evidence, and aiding and abetting second-degree arson.
The legal proceedings culminated in a significant conviction for the primary aggressor more than a year later. In February 2022, Beinville Alexander III entered a plea of no contest to a reduced charge of manslaughter while pleading guilty to nine other felonies, including second-degree arson, tampering with evidence, and mutilation of a dead body. In April 2022, a judge sentenced him to a minimum of 17 and a half to 40 years in prison, with the sentence running consecutively to a two-year term for a felony firearm charge. This plea agreement was established under a Killebrew agreement, which set the sentencing terms. At the time of Alexander's sentencing, the cases against his alleged accomplices, Harris and Ide, were still pending in the Genesee County Circuit Court.
