Brandon William Chunko, a 21-year-old male, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 27, 2021, in St. Johns, Michigan. Born in Lansing, Michigan, on September 9, 1999, he was a graduate of St. Johns High School, class of 2018. He was known by friends and family as a compassionate and caring young man with a creative and artistic imagination. His interests included riding motorcycles, playing the guitar and banjo, reading, and history.
He particularly enjoyed working with his father to restore a 1969 Ford Fairlane and old motorcycles.
The circumstances of his death were tragic and sudden. Brandon was attending a party in St. Johns where a guest displayed some weapons. Another individual at the party, Jesse Xavier Osga-Groves, 24, allegedly fired one of the weapons, striking and killing Brandon.
Following the incident, Jesse Xavier Osga-Groves was arrested and charged in connection with Brandon's death. The charge brought against him was 'death by weapon aimed with intent but without malice.' He was subsequently held on a $200,000 bail. The shooting was described as accidental, with the belief that Osga-Groves had aimed the weapon but had not intended to fire it.
