In the late summer of 2021, the life of 24-year-old Marissa Leigh Valdez was tragically cut short in Grand Rapids, Michigan. On the afternoon of Wednesday, September 8, 2021, police received 911 calls reporting a shooting at an apartment on the city's northeast side. Upon arrival, officers discovered Marissa inside, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The tragedy was compounded by the fact that Marissa was pregnant at the time of her death.
