In the early morning hours of October 30, 2021, the life of 29-year-old Raven Coleman, a mother of three from Clinton Township, was tragically cut short. Police responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute on Wayburn Avenue in Detroit at approximately 3:20 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Raven in the driveway, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.
Emergency medical services pronounced her dead at the scene.
The hours leading up to the fatal incident had been filled with promise and happiness for Raven, who was eagerly planning her wedding. Friends described her as being in love and excited about her future. She had recently been shopping for wedding dresses and, on the day before her death, had shared a joyful post on social media. Tragically, a verbal argument with her fiancé, 29-year-old Tereyl Devon Coleman, escalated with devastating consequences. It is alleged that during the dispute, Tereyl Coleman fired a handgun, fatally wounding his fiancée. A lifelong friend of Raven's recounted that she had tried to call her shortly before the shooting, a call that went unanswered.
In the wake of the shooting, Tereyl Devon Coleman was arrested. On November 2, 2021, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office charged him with one count of second-degree murder and one count of felony firearm. He was subsequently arraigned in the 36th District Court, and court proceedings were scheduled to begin later that month. The news of Raven's death and the charges against her fiancé sent shockwaves through the community, leaving her family and friends to grapple with the sudden and violent loss of a beloved daughter, mother, and friend.
