In the early hours of November 3, 2022, a domestic dispute in a Detroit, Michigan, apartment building escalated to a fatal conclusion, claiming the life of 54-year-old Maggie Stancil. The female victim was discovered by Detroit police officers after they were dispatched to a shooting report at a residence on East Jefferson Avenue at approximately 12:32 a.m.
Upon their arrival, officers found Ms. Stancil unresponsive.
Medical personnel transported her to a local hospital, but her injuries proved too severe, and she was pronounced deceased. Investigators allege that a verbal argument between Stancil and her live-in boyfriend, 66-year-old Gaylord Joseph Rogers, had taken a violent turn. It is believed that during the altercation, Rogers produced a rifle and fired, fatally wounding her.
Following the incident, Gaylord Joseph Rogers was taken into custody. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office subsequently charged him with one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Discharge in a Building Causing Death, and one count of Felony Firearm. He was arraigned on November 5, 2022, and was remanded to jail. Court proceedings, including a Probable Cause Conference and a Preliminary Examination, were scheduled for later that month.
