On the night of January 20, 2022, Desmount Dixon, a 33-year-old male, was in the 25000 block of Lincoln Terrace in Oak Park, Michigan, for what authorities believe was a marijuana transaction. During this encounter, an attempt was allegedly made to rob him. In the course of the incident, a weapon was produced, and Dixon was shot.
After being wounded, Dixon attempted to flee the scene in his Cadillac. His flight was short-lived, as he crashed his vehicle into an apartment building at the Loop Apartments in the 15000 block of Northgate Boulevard, roughly 1,000 feet from where the shooting occurred. Officers were dispatched to the scene around 11:15 p.m., where they discovered Dixon in the driver's seat of the crashed car. He was pronounced dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound. The crash itself did not cause his death and resulted in no other injuries, though it did break the window of an unoccupied apartment.
As investigators were processing the scene approximately three and a half hours after the initial call, a surprising development occurred. Three individuals returned to the area of the crime scene. Investigators questioned the three, and based on information developed from a witness, one of them, 18-year-old Derrion Deandre Walker of Detroit, was arrested in connection with the homicide. The other two individuals were released pending further investigation.
Derrion Deandre Walker was subsequently charged with felony murder, armed robbery, and two counts of felony firearm. At his arraignment in 45th District Court, he was denied bond. The charges carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison.
