In an Oak Park, Michigan home on Monday, September 14, 2020, what began as youthful curiosity tragically ended the life of 12-year-old Ladamian Williams. The young male was at his father's girlfriend's house in the 10000 block of Saratoga, reportedly to do schoolwork. Also in the home was the girlfriend's 15-year-old son.
According to investigators, the two boys were involved in gunplay, handling a firearm they found inside the residence. Around 12:30 p.m., the gun discharged, and Ladamian was struck by a single bullet. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the 15-year-old was taken into custody by Oak Park police. The following day, the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office announced that the teen would be charged with manslaughter as a juvenile. The name of the 15-year-old suspect was not publicly released due to his age. The firearm involved was reported to be legally registered. Ladamian Williams was a seventh-grade student at Parcells Middle School.
