In the winter of 2022, the life of 42-year-old Demore Harris, a Black male from Saginaw, Michigan, was tragically cut short. On what seemed to be a routine trip to the Food Basket store on Remington Street, Harris told his children he would be back, but he never returned home. Concern grew, and on February 19, 2022, his family officially reported him as a missing person to the Michigan State Police. The family had also been alarmed by a series of unsettling social media posts that were directed at Harris, which they had brought to the attention of the authorities.
The search for Demore Harris came to a grim conclusion on February 21, 2022. His body was discovered in a field on Phelon Street, roughly ten blocks from the store he was last seen heading towards. An investigation revealed that he had been shot at least once, and his death was officially ruled a homicide, marking the third such case in Saginaw for that year.
Despite the classification of his death as a murder, the investigation into who was responsible has been met with significant challenges. The Saginaw Police Department has reported having very few leads to follow. A detective sergeant involved in the case stated that it was likely Harris was already deceased by the time he was reported missing. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Demore Harris, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains an open and ongoing investigation as his family and community await answers and hope for justice.
