On the evening of September 8, 2017, Willie Jean Dawson, a 41-year-old male, was fatally shot as he was leaving Dom's Food Market on Saginaw's West Side. His death was the culmination of a dispute with another man, Troy Lee-Jabbar McClain Jr., reportedly stemming from an alleged affair Dawson had with McClain's wife.
That fateful night, Benjamin Roy Daly spotted Dawson at the market and contacted McClain to inform him of Dawson's whereabouts. McClain then arrived at the location with Alexander Jones III. McClain provided Jones with a firearm and instructed him to shoot Dawson. Jones followed through with the directive, opening fire and killing Dawson.
Following the investigation into the homicide, law enforcement officials arrested McClain and Daly. Both men faced legal proceedings for their roles in the murder of Willie Dawson. Troy Lee-Jabbar McClain Jr. was ultimately convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and multiple counts of felony-firearm. He received a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Benjamin Roy Daly was also convicted of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, resulting in a life sentence without the chance of parole.
