In a Detroit home on March 19, 2022, a verbal argument between Jamel Sandifer, a 30-year-old male, and his girlfriend, Shanitra Newson, escalated into a fatal shooting. The incident occurred in the afternoon at their shared residence on Bringard Drive. Two children, a 10-year-old boy parented by both Sandifer and Newson, and Newson's 10-month-old child, were present in the home at the time of the shooting.
