The young Hispanic man was at a family cookout on June 5, 2022, a gathering that would end in unimaginable sorrow. The festive atmosphere of the cookout soured when an argument broke out. The dispute escalated with the arrival of Juan M. Mireles, a relative who had not been invited to the gathering. An altercation ensued, and the sound of multiple gunshots pierced the night. In the chaos, Mariano, along with his cousins Laura Buendia and Rafael J. Campos, were fatally shot.
