In the late afternoon of a Monday in Detroit, Michigan, a family dispute escalated into a tragedy that cut short the life of 28-year-old professional boxer Isiah Jones. On September 19, 2022, at approximately 6:20 p.m., police were called to a residence on Stout Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jones unresponsive, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the face.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The ensuing investigation by the Detroit Police Department pointed to a familial altercation as the catalyst for the deadly encounter. Authorities alleged that an argument between Isiah Jones and his 30-year-old brother, Timothy Lyman, had taken a violent turn. It is believed that during this dispute, Lyman produced a shotgun and fired at his brother, inflicting the fatal wound. In the immediate aftermath, Lyman fled the location.
Following the investigation, Timothy Lyman was apprehended by authorities. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office subsequently charged him in connection with his brother's death. The charges brought against Lyman were second-degree murder and felony firearm. He was later arraigned in 36th District Court and was remanded to jail.
