In the quiet community of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, the life of 58-year-old Deborah Ruth Fulger was tragically cut short on October 26, 2022. A loving mother and grandmother, Deborah was known for her devotion to her family, her passion for gardening and various crafts, and her dedicated work as an account clerk at Westrock in Lansing, where she had cultivated close friendships over 12 years.
The circumstances of her death were violent and shocking. On that Wednesday morning, Deborah was discovered deceased from a gunshot wound inside her vehicle near the intersection of Kinneville Road and Simpson Drive. The investigation by the Eaton Rapids Police Department quickly revealed a grim sequence of events. It is believed that after their cars crashed into each other, Deborah's estranged husband, 57-year-old Harry Fulger, shot and killed her. He then returned to his own vehicle and took his own life in a tragic murder-suicide.
The incident was not without warning signs. Just ten days prior to the fatal encounter, on October 17, 2022, Harry Fulger had been arrested by the Ingham County Sheriff's Office. The charges against him were serious and included assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of analogues. Despite the gravity of these charges, he was released from custody the following day on a $7,500 personal recognizance bond. Authorities believe his deteriorating mental state and ongoing legal troubles were significant factors leading to the tragic events of October 26th. The community was left to mourn the loss of a cherished member, while the investigation sought to piece together the final moments of a life taken too soon.
