Policeman Walter Marshall of the Clarksdale Police Department in Mississippi was tragically shot and killed on September 4, 1909, while attempting to raid a cabin suspected of hosting illegal gambling activities. During the raid, one of the four men inside the cabin opened fire, fatally wounding Marshall. The suspect managed to escape the scene, leading to a series of violent events in the aftermath of the shooting.
