In the winter of 2024, the community of Clarksdale, Mississippi, was shaken by the violent and untimely death of 17-year-old Jameion Chatman. A Black male and a student at Clarksdale High School, his life was cut short on a Friday afternoon. On February 9, 2024, gunshots rang out on Spruce Street, and in the aftermath, Chatman was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head near the intersection of Spruce and Choctaw streets.
