Robert Lewis McGhee, Jr., a U.S. Park Ranger, tragically lost his life on May 26, 1990, at the age of 50. He was stationed at the Gulf Islands National Seashore in Mississippi when he was shot and killed by two convicts who had escaped from a Florida correctional facility. The convicts managed to steal a .38 caliber revolver from one of the corrections officers during their escape.
