Eric 'Mick' Jewess, a 57-year-old male, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015, at his home. His death was the result of a gunshot wound in what authorities determined to be a murder-suicide. The investigation concluded that his wife was the perpetrator who took his life before taking her own.
A native of Bessemer, Michigan, Jewess had built a life
marked by significant achievements and a commitment to his country. He was a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He furthered his education at the University of Michigan, obtaining a Master of Science in both Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. This strong educational foundation paved the way for a commendable career as a Naval Engineer in the U.S. Coast Guard, from which he retired as a Commander.
Following his military service, Jewess transitioned to the private sector, working as a logistics manager for Huntington Ingalls Industries on the Gulf Coast from 2003 until his death. He was known as a devoted father and grandfather, leaving behind a daughter, two sons, his mother, and two grandchildren. His life was one of structure, service, and family, making the violent circumstances of his death all the more shocking to those who knew him. No arrests were made in connection with his death due to the nature of the incident.
