In the pre-dawn chill of a January morning in Shannon, Mississippi, a long and respected career in law enforcement came to a sudden and violent end. Bobby Gene Spencer, the 58-year-old male Chief of Police, was ambushed and killed on January 18, 1997. A veteran of the United States Air Force who served in the Korean War, Chief Spencer had dedicated 20 years of his life to serving and protecting the community of Shannon.
