Bobby Gene Spencer, the Chief of Police in Shannon, Mississippi, was tragically killed on January 18, 1997, at the age of 58. Chief Spencer was ambushed and shot while walking into the police department building at approximately 4:45 a.m., just before ending his shift. His body was discovered by two officers who initially thought he had suffered a heart attack.
