In the small town of Shannon, Mississippi, a grim discovery was made on the morning of December 21, 2024. Juan Perry, a 37-year-old male from the nearby town of Okolona, was found deceased in his vehicle at the Busy Bee Convenience store on Romie Hill Avenue. Authorities received a call around 9:18 a.m. about a person slumped over in a car and arrived to find a scene that spoke of sudden violence.
The vehicle was riddled with bullet holes, and it was soon determined that Perry had succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.
The Shannon Police Department, led by Chief Anthony Rogers, immediately launched a homicide investigation. As they processed the scene and reviewed surveillance footage from the area, they sought the public's help in identifying potential witnesses and suspects. Investigators were particularly interested in speaking with the drivers of a small white car and a red or orange Chevrolet Camaro that were seen in the vicinity at the time of the shooting. The senseless act had cut short a life, leaving friends and family to mourn a man described as a good person and a dear friend.
Within days, the investigation led to significant breakthroughs. Two suspects, I'Bron Brumby and Frederick Randle, were taken into custody. Both men were charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Juan Perry. During their initial court appearance, a judge set their bonds at $500,000 each, and they were subsequently held at the Pontotoc County Sheriff's Department. The Shannon Police Department continued to press forward, announcing they were also searching for two other persons of interest, one of whom was identified as Marcus Thompson and the other a juvenile.
The pursuit of justice continued, and on December 30, Marcus Thompson was apprehended and also charged with first-degree murder. The arrest of the third suspect marked a significant development in the case, bringing some measure of progress for a community shaken by the violent event. While the arrests brought some resolution, the investigation remained active as authorities continued to seek information regarding the juvenile who was also believed to be connected to the fatal shooting.
