Harold Ray Presley, the sheriff of Lee County, Mississippi, tragically died on July 6, 2001, at the age of 53. Presley, who was known for his tough stance against narcotics, was involved in a shootout with an alleged kidnapper near Tupelo. The incident occurred during a door-to-door search for the suspect, Billy Ray Stone, who had fled into the woods after a car chase.
