In the pre-dawn hours of October 1, 2025, the quiet of a Tupelo, Mississippi neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Police responded to a 911 call reporting a fight and multiple shots fired at a home on Simpson Drive. Arriving at the residence around 4:15 a.m., officers discovered 36-year-old Cornelius Spearman, a male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite attempts to render life-saving aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the deadly shooting began immediately, with detectives treating it as a death related to a domestic disturbance.
Within a day, the investigation led Tupelo police to a suspect. They arrested 20-year-old Jermaine Morris of Tupelo in connection with the fatal shooting. Morris was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder in the death of Cornelius Spearman. He was booked into the Lee County Jail and a judge ordered him to be held without bond.
