On July 8th, Willis was at his workplace, the Lockheed Martin plant, when a fellow employee named Douglas Williams opened fire on his colleagues. The violent rampage resulted in the deaths of six people, including Willis.

The shooter, Douglas Williams, was identified as the sole person responsible for the massacre.
