In the spring of 2014, the life of 20-year-old Cureon Pope, a Black male from Waynesboro, Mississippi, was tragically cut short. On the evening of April 13th, Pope was at the intersection of Spring Street and Glitter Lane in his hometown when he was fatally shot. The incident sent ripples of shock and grief through the local community.
The Waynesboro Police Department, in conjunction with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, launched an intensive investigation into the homicide.
For over a year, law enforcement officers pieced together the events of that fatal night. Their efforts culminated in September 2015 with the arrests of two suspects: Bobby Schedell Hogan and Direco Deshawn McDougle.
Both men were charged with murder, aggravated assault, and shooting into an occupied motor vehicle.
