In the quiet affluence of a gated community in Ridgeland, Mississippi, Mark Mayfield, a 57-year-old Caucasian attorney and a prominent figure in the Mississippi Tea Party, was found dead on the morning of June 27, 2014. His wife made a frantic 911 call, reporting that her husband had just shot himself. When officers arrived at their home, they discovered his body in a storage room inside the garage.
