Jamarison Keshawn Rogers, an 18-year-old Black male from Jackson, Mississippi, lost his life on the evening of August 8, 2022. The fatal incident occurred during a party at the Wingate Hotel in Ridgeland, Mississippi, where a gathering of friends and acquaintances had taken place in one of the hotel rooms.
What began as a verbal dispute between attendees quickly spiraled into a physical altercation. During the course of this escalating argument, Jamarison was fatally shot. The Ridgeland Police Department responded to reports of the shooting at the hotel, located on the I-55 Frontage North. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jamarison with gunshot wounds. Despite any medical intervention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting was swift, leading to the identification of a suspect. Within three hours of the incident, police arrested 21-year-old Johnterrius Demond Murriel, also from Jackson. Murriel was subsequently charged with murder in connection with Jamarison's death. He was taken into custody and held at the Madison County Jail without bond.
