The Hattiesburg Police Department swiftly launched an investigation into the city's fifth homicide of the year. Their efforts quickly led to a person of interest, and within a day, an arrest was made. Marcus Antione Brown, a 34-year-old resident of Hattiesburg, was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. The investigation suggested that a dispute between Yancey and Brown had escalated, culminating in the deadly encounter in the apartment complex parking lot.
