In the late summer of 2014, the life of 17-year-old Katelyn Beard was tragically cut short in Jackson, Mississippi. The young woman, who was described by her mother as someone who loved meeting new people and would go to great lengths to make a friend, had recently connected with 19-year-old Dewayne Thompson online. Their acquaintance was brief, lasting no more than ten days before turning fatal.
