On the morning of December 2, 2020, a tragic event unfolded on Mobile Avenue in Jackson, Mississippi, that cut short the life of 22-year-old Brianna Dewana Branson. Born on January 11, 1998, Brianna was known for her gentle spirit and a smile that could light up a room. She was a mother to her young son, Braylen Branson, and a cherished daughter to her mother, LaKeisha Branson.
The day's events began to unravel around 7 a.m. when Brianna was discovered inside a vehicle, having been fatally shot. Another individual in the car, a man, was also shot in the arm and subsequently transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in serious condition. The Jackson Police Department was quick to investigate the shooting, and their initial findings pointed towards a domestic-related incident. Brianna's death marked the 121st homicide in Jackson for that year.
In the wake of the tragedy, a suspect was identified by law enforcement. Darius Quinn, who was 24 years old at the time and identified as Brianna's ex-boyfriend, became the focus of the investigation. Later that same night, Quinn turned himself in to the authorities. He was subsequently charged with capital murder, drive-by shooting, and aggravated assault in connection with the incident that ended Brianna Branson's life and injured another.
