In Biloxi, Mississippi, a domestic dispute on October 11, 2014, tragically escalated, resulting in the death of 26-year-old Anthony Wheaton. The male victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Biloxi Regional Hospital shortly after the incident on Dorries Street.
The conflict began with an argument between Rodise Jenkins and his girlfriend, Hazel Turner, who was Wheaton's mother. When Wheaton arrived at the residence, the argument intensified. Jenkins, who was 45 years old at the time, retrieved a. 357 revolver from his truck and shot Wheaton multiple times as he approached the porch. Witnesses reported that after Wheaton had fallen, Jenkins stood over him and fired two more shots. Turner testified that Jenkins then looked at her and said, 'Now call 911.”
Law enforcement quickly identified Jenkins as the suspect, and he was apprehended during a felony traffic stop on Bayview Avenue shortly after the shooting. He was subsequently charged with the first-degree murder of Anthony Wheaton.
During a two-day trial, Jenkins claimed he acted in self-defense. However, a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder. Following the conviction, a Harrison County Circuit Judge sentenced Rodise Jenkins to life in prison for the murder of Anthony Wheaton.
