In the summer of 2016, a quiet senior living complex in Jackson, Mississippi, became the scene of a tragic and violent event that claimed the life of 66-year-old Jackie Patterson and his wife. An African American male, Patterson resided at the Delhaven Manor Apartments with his spouse, Diana Patterson, aged 59. Their life together came to an abrupt and brutal end on the morning of August 2, 2016.
That morning, police received a 911 call from a man who stated he had shot two individuals
at the Albermarle Road apartment complex. When officers arrived at apartment A-307, they discovered the bodies of Jackie and Diana Patterson in a bedroom. Both had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Jackie Patterson had also been stabbed once in the chest. The man who made the call, Devell Bingham, who was Diana Patterson's 39-year-old son, was at the scene and was taken into custody without incident.
Bingham, who had been living with his mother and stepfather, was subsequently charged with two counts of murder. The motive for the killings appeared to stem from a domestic dispute. Reports suggested there was ongoing tension between Bingham and the Pattersons, possibly related to financial matters and his living arrangements.
