In the late summer of 2014, the life of 26-year-old LaCordne Greene, a Black male, was cut short in Jackson, Mississippi. On August 20th, Greene was discovered at the Arbor Park Apartments located on Shaw Road, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation into his death would reveal a story of a robbery gone fatally wrong.
Authorities quickly zeroed in on a suspect, 23-year-old Michael Sorrell.
Investigators determined that Sorrell had attempted to rob Greene, and in the course of the crime, shot him in the neck. This violent encounter proved to be fatal for Greene. Following the incident, the Jackson Police Department issued warrants for Sorrell's arrest, pursuing charges of murder and for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Michael Sorrell was no stranger to the criminal justice system, with prior convictions for robbery and receipt of stolen goods on his record. This history played a role in his classification as a habitual offender. The legal process moved forward, and in June of 2017, the case came to a close in a Hinds County Circuit courtroom. Judge William Gowan sentenced Michael Sorrell to life in prison for the first-degree murder of LaCordne Greene. In addition to the life sentence, Sorrell received a concurrent ten-year sentence for the firearm possession charge, bringing a measure of justice to the tragic and untimely death of LaCordne Greene.
