In the quiet town of Vicksburg, Mississippi, the life of Alfred 'Stan' Harris, a 61-year-old man, was brought to a tragic end on September 12, 2016. Harris, a long-time employee of 43 years at International Paper, was known for his love of hunting and fishing. His death, however, was not the result of a natural passing but a violent act that would unravel a story of domestic turmoil.
On that fateful day, Vicksburg Police responded to a shooting reported at the Harris residence on Smedes Street. Upon their arrival, they were met by Becky Gail Harris, who informed them of the shooting inside their home. Officers then discovered Alfred Harris deceased in a bedroom, having sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his head. The ensuing investigation pointed to his wife, Becky Gail Harris, who was 47 at the time, as the one who had shot her husband during an argument.
Becky Gail Harris was subsequently indicted for the murder of her husband by a Warren County grand jury. The case moved through the legal system, and on May 5, 2020, she entered a guilty plea to a count of second-degree murder. During her sentencing on May 27, 2020, 9th Circuit District Judge M. James Chaney sentenced her to 30 years in prison, with 25 years to be served and five years of post-release supervision. Testimonies during the court proceedings from family members and others painted a picture of a troubled past and an abusive relationship between Becky and Alfred Harris.
