In the early morning hours of February 17, 2017, in Holly Springs, Mississippi, a young man's life was cut short in a burst of violence. Twenty-year-old Carlos Chairez was discovered in an SUV behind a residence on North Walthal Street, having been shot multiple times. First responders were called to the scene around 2:40 a.m., but it was too late. Chairez was pronounced dead at 3:07 a.m. from gunshot wounds that included injuries to his arm and head.
The events that led to the fatal shooting began earlier in the evening at a party at a different location. An altercation broke out between Chairez and another young man, 20-year-old Judaryl Holloway. Investigators believe that following the initial fight, Holloway followed Chairez to the North Walthal Street address. It was there that the dispute escalated to a deadly conclusion, with Holloway allegedly shooting Chairez multiple times.
In a surprising turn of events, just a couple of hours after the shooting, Judaryl Holloway turned himself in to the Holly Springs Police Department. The investigation into the death of Carlos 'Lito' Samuel Chairez, a former factory worker at Racor, was ongoing following the suspect's surrender. Chairez was survived by a daughter, his parents, and numerous siblings.
