In a heartbreaking incident that unfolded on an April Sunday in Vicksburg, Mississippi, a young life was tragically cut short. Three-year-old Jayceon Karter O'Neal, a male child, died on April 23, 2017, from a gunshot wound. The community was left in shock following the devastating event that transpired on Ford Street.
According to the Warren County Coroner, Jayceon sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest from a. 380 caliber handgun. At the time of the incident, the young boy was in the living room of his home. Investigators determined that the wound was self-inflicted. It is believed that Jayceon found his father's handgun in a drawer and accidentally discharged it while playing with it.
Present in the home at the time of the shooting were Jayceon's father and a 16-year-old. The Vicksburg Police Department launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the child gaining access to the firearm.
