In the summer of 2017, a tragedy struck a Jackson, Mississippi home that resulted in the death of a young boy. On the morning of July 1, 2017, 5-year-old Jayden Pempleton died from what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident occurred at his residence on Cromwell Street around 10:55 a.m.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Jayden was immediately transported to Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the young male child succumbed to a gunshot wound to his face and was pronounced dead.
The Jackson Police Department, with Commander Tyree Jones leading the investigation, responded to the home. Investigators questioned Jayden's father and other individuals who were present at the time of the shooting. After a thorough investigation, which included the collection of evidence and witness statements for crime lab analysis, the authorities concluded that the shooting was a tragic accident. The investigation found no evidence of foul play or criminal intent. Consequently, no charges were filed in connection with the incident, and there were no arrests or suspects in the case.
