On the night of December 24, 2017, a dispute that began at a nightclub in Robinsonville, Mississippi, tragically culminated in the death of 24-year-old Jeremy Jones. The initial altercation occurred at the 56 Night Club on Highway 61, where Jones allegedly stepped on the shoes of Antonio “Mac-T” Jasper, leading to a fight involving several individuals. Following this confrontation, Jones and his girlfriend, Denesha Grant, left the club and eventually made their way to a Waffle House, also located on Highway 61, in an attempt to retrieve a lost cell phone.
At the Waffle House, the situation escalated dramatically. Jones and a friend, Ladarius Hibbler, who had driven him and Grant there, were in the parking lot speaking with Maurice “Blood” Ward, an acquaintance of Jasper's who was believed to have Jones's phone. During this conversation, Antonio Jasper arrived at the scene and opened fire. Jones was fatally shot, and Hibbler sustained multiple gunshot wounds but survived.
Law enforcement was dispatched to the Waffle House, where witnesses identified Jasper as the shooter. Investigators reviewed security footage from the restaurant, which confirmed Jasper as the perpetrator. An arrest warrant was issued on the same day, and after a search, Jasper was taken into custody on December 27, 2017, facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
Antonio Jasper was subsequently indicted by a Tunica County grand jury for the first-degree murder of Jeremy Jones, aggravated assault against Ladarius Hibbler, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Following a trial, a jury found Jasper guilty of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. The jury could not reach a unanimous verdict on the aggravated assault charge. For his crimes, the court sentenced Jasper to life in prison for the murder of Jeremy Jones and an additional five years for the firearm possession charge.
